Understand Food - Cooking Lessons
Throughout our lives, we gain knowledge from those that raise and educate us, but if we're not taught something, then we do not know it.
Unlike riding a bike or fixing a car, cooking is a skill we all need to use regularly. Whether it’s out of necessity, curiosity, or just the joy of sharing food with others, it doesn’t mean it always comes easily.
At F.Oh.Oh.D, we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in the kitchen, no matter their starting point. Our cookery lessons aren’t about perfection; they’re about building everyday skills in a relaxed, welcoming space where you can learn and be inspired.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or novice, we’re here to help you take that next step and enjoy the process along the way.
Our lessons run in two programmes, 10 sessions in each. For more information, see below
- Lessons are £45 per lesson : 1 hour - 1 hour 30mins long
- Advanced lessons are £50 per lesson : 1 hour 30mins - 2 hours long
- Take place at F.Oh.Oh.D unless agreed otherwise
- Flexible; attend as little or as often as you like
We suggest a minimum of five lessons to start, and you can pay as you go if you prefer.
Don't want to learn on your own? We also offer lessons for two people.
Cooking is always better together so whether you want to come with a member of your family, your partner or a friend, our two-person lessons will help you learn new skills and practise together.
- Joint sessions are £30 per person for 1hr 30mins - 2hrs long
- Sessions can be run for all dietary needs
- Lessons include all ingredients, equipment and the food you make to take away.

Oh...
These lessons are not designed to show you how to make a specific dinner or recipe, but to understand your ingredients, learning how and why to cook them.
Once you're empowered with that knowledge, you can make your own recipes with the confidence to cook what you like.
In each of the first five classes, you will learn skills on each topic through hands-on making and tailored, verbal instructions. We will start working with, and learning, a base set of ingredients and skills that will give you the understanding and confidence to cook a wide variety of foods. At the end of each session, you will go away with the base, or all of, a meal that we have created together.
You will learn food science, preparation, cooking and understanding of root and stem vegetables, sauces and meats. You will cover cooking techniques, knife skills and basic food hygiene.
The next five sessions will use your newly developed skills to create full meals, all of which can be easily adapted to make other dishes. You will be doing all the cooking with me as a guide. You then get to take away your full meal with you.
Advanced Lessons
We always suggest you take the first five lessons in our beginners package as we cover the understanding of cooking and how we teach, which follows through to all future lessons and dishes you cook.
After you have finished the first 10 lessons, or if you wish to just do the first five (or more), our advanced lessons cover more advanced cooking skills, with the last lesson culminating you cooking a two course fine dining meal for some of your family or friends.
Please note: Availability of cooking lessons will depend on how many people are currently undertaking them. There may be a waiting period, however you will be advised of this in our initial discussion.
